BJP Dominates Political Funding in 2022-23, Receiving Over 85% of Declared Donations

BJP received the highest donation amount in the financial year 2022-23. The party declared that it received ₹719.85 crore in donations. The party’s donation amount was higher than five times the aggregate amount received by four other national parties (the Congress, AAP, CPI(M), National People’s Party) according to the report by the election watchdog Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

The report discusses donations above ₹20,000 received by the national parties in the financial year 2022-23.

The sixth national party, BSP, declared that it did not receive donations above ₹20,000 during the financial year. The cumulative donations received by the national parties in the financial year were ₹850.438 crore, of which BJP received ₹719.85 crore, the Congress received ₹79.92 crore, CPI(M) received ₹3.978 crore, and AAP received ₹1.143 crore.

BJP’s Funding was increased by 17.12 percent as the party received ₹614.62 crore in 2021-22 and ₹719.85 crore in 2022-23, while the Congress saw a decrease in Funding from ₹95.45 crore in 2021-22 to ₹79.92 crore in 2022-23.

As per the report, a total of ₹276.20 crore, ₹169.50 crore, and ₹96.27 crore were donated from Delhi, Gujarat, and Maharashtra respectively to the national parties.
